Fort Worth Health Insurance Could be Affected by Repeal of Obamacare

Fort Worth Health Insurance may rely on what the Senate can accomplish in the next few days. Senate members are racing to reach an agreement before September 30th. At the same time, Texas health brokers stand to gain from Medicare redistribution.

Health Insurance in Fort Worth, Texas will be dependent on the Senate’s vote on repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act (ACA) with the Graham – Cassidy Bill. This is the third vote in 7 months to appeal the ACA.

The Graham – Cassidy Bill is only three pages long and gives block grants to the states for Medicaid. Block grants are set amounts of money to be distributed state wide. This money does not keep up with inflation, therefore as healthcare costs increases in places dependent on Medicaid, the block grants will be stagnant. This could put Fort Worth health insurance in jeopardy of price increases the following year; for Fort Worth insurance premiums will have to also cover persons entering the hospital with no insurance.

It is widely believed that this bill has a good chance of passing. The reason is that monies from states that accepted Medicaid will be redistributed to states that did not accept Medicaid; namely to those Senator’s states who voted no on the last attempt to repeal and replace the ACA.

Texas health brokers would stand to gain from the redistribution of Medicaid throughout the state of Texas, by keeping hospitals in rural areas competitive. This creates a larger insurance market for individuals not on Medicaid by maintaining capacity in hospitals for patients needing care. In turn Health Insurance Carriers are lured into rural markets, thereby giving brokers more opportunities to sell health insurance.

Senators are racing to reach an agreement and hold a vote on the bill before Sept. 30, when under a parliamentarian ruling they will no longer be able to use special “budget reconciliation” rules to prevent a filibuster on the measure.

Senator’s aids said the House of Representatives will also have to act before the end of September. The current process would mean the bill will have to be voted on by the Senate, then sent to the House of Representatives where it is tweaked, voted on, then bounces back to the Senate for a final approval. This last-minute vote cuts the edges close considering there will be 5 to 6 business days left in the month of September.

The Graham Cassidy Bill will make sure it lowers premiums and gives governors flexibility to appropriate block grant funds where needed. Right now, there are 9 Governors that oppose this bill and some undecided. Overall, the passing or defeat of this bill will determine the fate of healthcare over the next 10 years.
